Our Love Story

How we met

Debo:

Sometimes in 2009 during ASUU strike, went to drop a friend of mine who was staying temporarily at Dunni’s house. It was in the dark, so we just greeted and exchanged pleasantries. Met her again when school resumed; I didn’t even recognize her but she walked up to me and said I was a snub. I told her I didn’t know her, and then she introduced herself as the person I met when I dropped my friend off. She accosted me again at my Faculty; for been a snub. This time, I decided to take her number, but never did call or get to talk.
Fast Forward to 2011, during my NYSC, a mutual friend used Dunni’s picture as her display picture for her birthday. I requested for her pin from her. I buzzed her up and then we started talking. Nothing serious till 2015 when we spoke at length on phone and discovered she lived close to my place.
At that point, we discovered we had a thing for each other, so we started a formal relationship. I always joked about telling our daughter that their mum indirectly toasted me because I didn’t even recognize her at all in school until she walked up to me and called me a snub. I’m so glad she did ‘cos I probably won’t have known her.

Dunni:

We met when he came to my parent’s house. He came to see a family friend – a friend of his. Later got to know we attended the same university. The few times I saw him in school, he didn’t used to greet me and then I was like you came to my house and then you are snubbing me. I approached him and said you came to my house and you don’t even say hello, bla, bla… He said he couldn’t remember my face. Then we started talking and he got my phone number. We were just “Hi-Hi” friends.
After a while he added me on BBM through a friend of us. He later moved closer to my house so we started seeing, gisting and all. Few months later, he asked me out then we became official.

The Proposal

Debo:

I proposed on the 26th of November. Told her I was going to marry her exactly one year after.
Prior to that, I sent a picture of Dunni on a ring to her sister and told her to get the ring for me. She instantly got the message and was screaming on the phone.
Initially planned the proposal after my office retreat; cos I wanted a situation where she was not expecting me in Lagos. I couldn’t because the weekend after was her friend’s wedding.
Her brother cooked up a story of how he was doing the end of the year dinner at work and was supposed to give a speech for his outstanding performance. Also said he was given 2 tickets for 2 extra people. Before getting to the venue, he changed the story that the dinner got cancelled last minute but they could all still go for an outing.
While they were having the dinner at Fourpoints, Sheraton, I gave Dunni a call telling her I missed her and wished I could be with them at the dinner whereas; I was just downstairs making the call. To cut the long story, she was dumbfounded on seeing me and then I popped the question. She couldn’t even get herself to say yes initially – but she eventually did.

Dunni:

He was supposed to be in Abuja, I was in lag. My brother said we were going to for a dinner organized by his place of work and I believed him. He had 2 tickets for the dinner at Sheraton. I was so hungry and tired and they were late to come and pick us for the dinner. I was planning to look on point for the dinner with my brother & sister but I was frustrated & hungry cos he didn’t come on time. In fact I wanted to wear slippers, but my sister was insisting that why would I want to wear slippers to Sheraton. I managed to wear one sandal. I didn’t even suspect anything. I was looking into my food & all of a sudden I just saw people coming. It was not only him. I was shocked! The painful part was I couldn’t even eat again. I said Yes.

Somehow, I've known Debo and Dunni for a long while. Even before they started dating. And I think highly of both of them as amazing individuals. It's a miracle that Dunni's sweetness found Debo's kindness in this upside-down world. I'm sure Debo would have paid his friends to remind Dunni severally how lucky she is to have him. I'm doing mine pro bono! Truthfully, Debo is one of the most genuine, down to earth and good-natured human beings I've ever met. And I am glad he found such a godly orente to share life with. I wish you both heaven's best in your marriage. ????????????
